My parents were both Canadian by birth. When they were first married they moved to Talara, Peru where my two sisters and I were born. We were there for the first few years of our lives. We then moved to Nova Scotia for one year, at which time my father was transferred to Winnipeg, where I grew up. My interests in art developed in Winnipeg where I studied music and had a keen interest in the visual arts. From there I moved to Ontario where I remain today. In 1983 I met my husband Guy and we married in 1985. I went back to school in 1986 as a mature student studying Fine Art at the Ontario College of Art, graduating with Honours in 1989. Since then I have been living and working in Pickering Village. I have once again taken up music and am studying piano with Anne Mizen-Baker and preparing for exams through the Royal Conservatory of Music. When I was younger I studied piano and voice but only took the exams in voice. I have acquired through my studies, two Silver Medals - one for singing (Grade Two way back when) and recently for piano (Grade One). I have completed my Grade Five exam and am now working on Grade Six. This all came about when I was approached by neighbours who wanted me to teach their children piano shortly after I acquired a little baby grand and put it in my living room window. Not having played the piano for many years I was a little wary, but I said yes, and now in order to keep up with these guys, I have had to improve myself, thus the piano lessons. I also discovered some of my students loved to sing and now I am adding singing to my teaching and learning repertoire. This has been a wonderful aside for my work as a visual artist. I now have 18 music students. I continue to work as a visual artist, painting mainly in oils on canvas. Occasionally I teach art in a classroom environment to children and adults.
